The 1st Regional Technovation Challenge was a huge success. Four teams emerged victorious and have made it to the Semi-Finals.

The technovation challenge, hosted in Calabar on Saturday, 11th May 2019 at the Tinapa Knowledge City engaged 26 teams from Calabar and Aba who pitched their ideas in the hopes that they will excel well enough to represent Nigeria at the annual Technovation World Pitch Summit in August 2019 at Silicon Valley, California, USA. They stand a chance to win scholarships and funding for their ideas.

The teams that made the cut were Team Harryfield and Team Paradise (for the junior category), Team Valeria and Explicit Innovators (for the senior category). They will work with other teams from across the globe in the semi-finals.

In attendance was the Cultural Affairs Specialist, Embassy of the United States of America, Abuja, Nigeria – Bella Anne Nduibuisi. She announced the winners for this year’s regional technovation challenge and expressed her delight to be a part of the event.

Also in attendance was the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Stella Odey who when called to address the crowd also expressed delight and appreciated the efforts of the organizers in playing their own role to ensure that girls are empowered with the needed technology skills to drive change in the society.

Also speaking, the host, Grace Ihejiamaizu (Founder, iKapture Networks) stated that technovation was to serve to mentor and provide a positive outlet for young girls bordering on how they can think innovatively and use technology to proffer solutions to problems in their environs.

Other notables present at the event were Pastor Akomaye Ugar (Senior Pastor, Honeystreams Christian Centre & International Development Speaker) who came with his family, Mrs. Christiana Ihejiamaizu (Associate Professor in the University of Calabar and mother of the Convener).

Others notables who served as judges were: Mrs. Esther Eshiet (Faculty Lead; Afterschool Centre for Career Development), Mr. Okorn Okorn (Founder of The LiftHub), Ukeh Ogar (Journalist & Broadcaster), Elizabeth Kalu and Eti Demas (Founder, 1million Jobs).

The peak of the event was the presentation of certificates and plaques to participants, mentors, teachers and winning teams; as well as presentation of Teacher achievements award; and Award of recognition to partners.
